PAG-ASA Public Weather Forecast - Tropical Storm 'QUINTA' (December 25, 2012)

Issued at 5:00 pm. today, December 25 2012, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) forecasts that at 4:00 p.m., today, the center of Tropical Storm “QUINTA” was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 90 km Southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (10.3°N, 126.5°E) with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It is forecast to move west at 24 kph. Northeast monsoon affecting Luzon.


Forecast:
The provinces of Eastern and Western Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, northern Cebu including Camotes Island, Bohol, Dinagat, Siargao and Surigao Del Norte will experience stormy weather with rough to very rough seas. The rest of Visayas and CARAGA and the provinces of Misamis Oriental including Camiguin Island, Northern Samar and Masbate including Ticao Island will have rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. CALABARZON, the rest of Bicol and Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Cagayan Valley and the province of Aurora will experience cloudy skies with light rains. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and the rest of Visayas and coming from the northeast to northwest over the rest of Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Tropical Storm "QUINTA" has maintained its strength and is now approaching Leyte Provinces.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 to 20 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within the 350 km diameter of the storm.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal #2 and #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under public storm warning signal #2 are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and Mindanao.

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5AM tomorrow.
