Issued at 5:00 p.m. today, December 16, 2011, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) forecasts that at 4:00 pm today, Tropical Storm "SENDONG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data in the vicinity of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur (8.2°N,126.1°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 22 kph.

Synopsis:
At 4:00 p.m. today, Tropical Storm "SENDONG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data in the vicinity of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur (8.2°N,126.1°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 22 kph.
Forecast:
Northeastern Mindanao will experience stormy weather while the rest of Mindanao, Southern Visayas and Palawan will have rains with gusty winds. The rest of Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Extreme Northern Luzon will be mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Luzon and Western Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.
Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 - 25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.
Mining operators and small scale miners are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides and take necessary precautionary measures.
Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea.
The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today and the hourly updates.
