PAG-ASA Public Weather Forecast - Tropical Storm 'Sendong' (December 18, 2011)

Issued at 5:00 pm. today, December 18 2011, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) forecasts that at 4:00 p.m., Tropical Storm "SENDONG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 410 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City (10.3°N,114.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West at 24 kph. Northeast Monsoon affecting Luzon.

Synopsis:

At 4:00 p.m. today, Tropical Storm "SENDONG" was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 410 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City (10.3°N,114.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West at 24 kph. Northeast Monsoon affecting Luzon.

Forecast:

Northern and Central Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers becoming widespread rains over the Eastern sections which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. The rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the East over Visayas. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the East with slight to moderate seas.

Public Storm Warning Signals elsewhere are now lowered.

Fishing boats and other small sea crafts over the seaboards of Luzon and Eastern Visayas are advised not to venture out into the sea due to big waves generated by Monsoon Surge enhanced by TS SENDONG and extra caution over the sea board of Western Visayas.

Residents over the Eastern section of Luzon and Eastern Visayas are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today and the hourly updates.
