Classes Suspended in Dinagat Islands and Nearby Provinces - October 11, 2011

According to state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), Tropical Depression "Ramon" continues to move closer and increases its threat to Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao.

At 5:00 a.m. today, twelve areas in these main islands were already placed under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1: Eastern Samar, Western Samar, Leyte Provinces, Bohol, Biliran, Camotes Island in Visayas and Surigao Del Norte, Siargao Island, Surigao Del Sur, Agusan Del Norte, Dinagat Group of Islands, Camiguin Island in Mindanao.

Based on the Department of Education (DepEd)'s policy, classes in the pre-school /kinder and/or primary level are automatically suspended if Storm Signal No. 1 is raised.

Meanwhile, if there's Signal No. 2, automatic suspension of classes in pre-school /kinder, elementary and high school is imposed. If Signal No. 3 is raised means classes in all levels including college and post graduate studies are automatically suspended.

The DepEd in its Twitter account (@DepEd_PH) has so far tweeted only once as of 8:00 a.m., saying:
Dinagat Islands: Prov'l Gov't suspends classes in kindergarten and elementary today, Oct 11, due to TD Ramon.
