DINAGAT ISLANDS -- Classes in all levels in public and private schools in the province of Dinagat Islands are suspended
starting Wednesday afternoon, November 6, 2013 and will resume until further notice, said
Provincial Information Officer Rosario Roxas, Jra. on Wednesday.
The suspension was made after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services
Administration (PAG-ASA) updates that Typhoon "Yolanda"
(international name: HAIYAN) is expected to make landfall over Leyte provinces on Friday morning and will affects the weather condition of Northern Mindanao,Central Visayas and Southern Luzon.
Posts on the Provincial Vice Governor, Benglen Ecleo Facebook account said:
"PIO Dinagat Islands: The PDRRMC Dinagat Islands has
declared State of Heightened Alert and Eminent Danger.That to emphasize
pre-emptive evacuation, suspension of classes at all levels and
government works are advised effective this 12:00nn 6 November 2013 in
the province.fyi.ty"
All MDRRMCs and BDRRMCs are advised to continuously advocate proactive response for the safety of their constituents in their respective Area of Responsibility, PDRRMC-Dinagat Islands said.
Fishermen in Dinagat Islands were also warned Wednesday to take precautions against high tide. Settlers near landslide prone areas were also advised to vacate from their respective places to avoid possible hazards.
PAGASA said Haiyan is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility early Thursday and make landfall over the Samar-Leyte area Friday noon.
Once Haiyan is inside the PAR, it will be locally codenamed Yolanda.
"Bukas madaling araw papasok ito ng PAR. (Ang landfall) sa Samar-Leyte area, mga Friday noontime," PAGASA forecaster Glaiza Escullar said in an interview on dzBB radio.
She said Haiyan is expected to exit the PAR early Sunday morning.
At 4:00 pm today, PAG-ASA said that the eye of Typhoon with International Name "HAIYAN"was located based on all available data at 1,221 km East of Mindano (07.7°N, 137.4°E) with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 30 kph.
