The Day 35 of the impeachment trial of Chief
Justice Renato Corona which suppose to happen on Monday, March 26, 2012 has been postponed, therefore, live stream will also not be available.
For the information of everybody, the court declares on Thursday, March 22 that the impeachment trial will take a one-month break starting on that day. It will
resume in early May, when both houses of Congress resume its session.
In an interview from dzbb, Senator-judge Miriam Defensor-Santiago said on Sunday that the one-month break from the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato
Corona may not be a quiet one for the senator-judges as there may be
attempts from both the defense and prosecution panels to influence them.
Santiago added that she is also not discounting possible efforts to snare the Senate presidency, a post presently held by Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile.
“Yes, definitely. There is an effort to sabotage the trial by approaching each senator-judge individually and offering ... if you vote in favor, you will likely end up on the ticket of the administration, meron kaming organization at pera,” Santiago in an interview on dzBB radio.
According to her, there may be efforts from both sides to seek out each senator-judge, who she said cannot just stay abroad during the break.
When asked about the possibility of both parties attempting to influence the senator-judges during the break, Santiago said, “Absolutely, I’m sure it’s going to take place both sides.”
But in her case, she said those trying to influence the outcome may have to think twice because she might squeal on them.
Santiago said that while it is possible the administration may pitch “advantages” to senator-judges seeking reelection in 2013 like a slot in the administration ticket, there are also groups against Corona’s impeachment.
“Sabi ko nga, quasi-political, quasi-judicial ang proceeding. Hindi mo matanggal na may political factors in deciding the ultimate decision of the impeachment court,” she said.
Meanwhile, Santiago also said there is also the possibility of attempts to remove Enrile from his post.
“You know, the devil never sleeps, kasi malapit nang matapos impeachment malamang sa meron diyan nag-aambisyon, nag-isip ‘pag nakuha ko resulta na gusto ng kausap ko pwede ako maging SP ... Hindi natin maiwasan ‘yan, talagang ganoon pagisip ng pulitiko,” she said. KBK, GMA News
