PAG-ASA Public Weather Forecast - Shallow Low Pressure Area (SLPA) (November 5, 2011)

Issued at 5:00 a.m. today, November 5, 2011, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) forecasts that at 2:00 a.m., the Shallow Low Pressure Area (SLPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 450 km Northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar (13.0°N, 129.5°E) embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting the whole country.

The eastern section of Luzon and northeastern Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger falshfloods and landslides. The rest of the country will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the East to Northeast will prevail over Luzon and Eastern Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the Southwest to West with slight to moderate seas.

At 8 a.m. today, the Shallow Low Pressure Area (SLPA) was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 380 km East Northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar (12.5°N, 129.0°E) and embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

These weather systems will bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in the country. However, widespread rains are still expected over the Eastern Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

The next advisory will be issued at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
