PAG-ASA Public Weather Forecast - Typhoon 'Quiel' (September 30, 2011)

A4:00 pm today, PAG-ASA forecasts that Typhoon "QUIEL" was located based on satellite and surface data at 490 km East of Tuguegarao City (17.9°N 126.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It is forecast to move West at 26 kph Quiel is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon and Western Visayas.

Synopsis:

At 4:00 p.m. today, Typhoon "QUIEL" was located based on satellite and surface data at 490 km East of Tuguegarao City (17.9°N 126.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It is forecast to move West at 26 kph.

Forecast:

The western section of Northern Luzon will have rains and gusty winds while the rest of Northern Luzon will experience stormy weather. The coastal waters along these areas will be rough to very rough. The rest of Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northwest to West will prevail over Visayas and the rest Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the Southwest with slight to moderate seas.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Typhoon "Quiel" is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon and Western Visayas.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 - 25 mm per hour within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today.

Strong to gale force wind is expected to affect the western seaboards 

of Northern and Central Luzon.
