The Miss Universe 2011 pageant has been aired live from Sao Paulo, Brazil on NBC at 9 p.m. EST. Miss Leila Lopes of Angola was proclaimed as the Miss Universe 2011 (see link) being crowned by Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.
The 89 contestants have participated in several events including Best in National Costume during the Preliminary Competition prior to the pageant night and the Best National Costume Award was bagged by Miss Sheldry Saez of Panama.
The other special awards were 'Miss Photogenic' that was taken by Ronnia Fornstedt of Sweden (see link) and 'Miss Congeniality' were given away to Miss Nikolina Lonca of Montenegro (see link) respectively.
