5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Dinagat Islands

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake rocks Dinagat Islands on Wednesday afternoon, September 7, 2011, but no casualties or damage to property were reported, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) posted in their website.

The tremor was recorded at 02:07 P.M. PST and was tectonic in nature. Phivolcs said that the epicenter of the quake was located at 10.08°N, 125.55°E - 13 km N 21° W of Dinagat Islands.
Although the quake was shallow-it originated 13 kilometers from the ground. There were no reports of deaths or property damage in the province or nearby areas, however, aftershocks is expected and no Tsunami Alert issued.
The tremors generated by the earthquake in Dinagat Islands was felt as far as Surigao City, Surigao del Norte (Intensity III), Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (Intensity II), Mainit, Surigao del Norte (Intensity II) and Tacloban City in Leyte (Intensity I) Phivolcs added.
