Suspension of Classes on August 9, 2012

Due to the violent "Hanging Habagat" or Southwest Monsoon accompanied by heavy rains causing an unpreventable flood to access roads, schools, houses and other establishments, classes will still be suspended in several schools and other educational institutions in Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Thursday, August 9, 2012.


Here is the list of LGUs and schools that declared suspension of classes (as of 7:20 PM):

METRO MANILA

AT ALL LEVELS:
  • Caloocan
  • Makati
  • Mandaluyong
  • Manila
  • Marikina (preschool to high school, no classes until Friday)
  • Navotas
  • Paranaque
  • Pasig
  • Pateros
  • Quezon City (all levels, until Friday, August 10)
  • San Juan
  • Taguig

PRESCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL:

  • Valenzuela
  • Pasay City

OUTSIDE METRO MANILA

AT ALL LEVELS:
  • Binangonan, Rizal
  • Calumpit, Bulacan
  • Hagonoy, Bulacan
  • Malolos, Bulacan (all levels, until August 10, Friday)
  • Pampanga
  • Taytay, Rizal

PRESCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL:

  • Antipolo City
  • Bacoor, Cavite (Announcements regarding class suspension for other municipalities/cities of Cavity will be made at 10pm)

Earlier today, the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education issued a statement denying rumors that classes will be suspended until Friday, August 10 2012. It looks like they spoke too soon.

MERALCO has also denied rumors circulating via SMS that a Luzon-wide brownout will be happening soon.

The government still asking the public to help instill orderliness and care of evacuation premises and properties.
