Asian Institute of Tourism Scholarship and SKAL Club of Manila Scholarship - How To Apply

There are so many types of scholarships, it helps to be abreast of the types, time ranges, amounts, and places to find them. 


In the Philippines those who are majoring in Tourism, the Asian Institute of Tourism (AIT) offers financial assistance for deserving juniors and seniors via its scholarship of the same name (the AITS). The Institute actually offers two scholarship grants to financially-deserving 3rd and 4th year BS Tourism students, viz:

  • The Asian Institute of Tourism Scholarship
  • SKAL Club of Manila Tourism Scholarship
Student assistantships are also available to students who show satisfactory academic work. Applicants can inquire directly at the UP-Diliman Office of Scholarships and Student Services and/or the Office of the AIT Institute Secretary.

IV. BASIC CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:

The scholarship is open to 3rd and 4th year BS Tourism students who have the following qualifications:
  • Must not be a recipient of any other scholarship.
  • Must be financially deserving, i.e., annual gross income of parents is not more than Php100,000.00 (for Filipino grantees).
  • Must have obtained a general weighted average of at least "2.00" with no grade of "5.00" or unremoved "4.00" or "inc." in the semester preceding the application.
V. OTHER CONDITIONS

The scholarship is renewable every semester provided recipient obtains an average of "2.00," with no grade "5.00" or unremoved "4.00" or "Inc." in the preceding semester.

VI. DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants should submit the following requirements:
a. Duly accomplished application form
b. Income Tax Return of parents for the preceding year
d. True Copy of Grades

VII. PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION

a. Applicants must secure application forms from:
Office of Scholarships and Student Services
Vinzons Hall, UP Diliman
Office of the Institute Secretary
AIT Bldg., Commonwealth Avenue
Diliman, Quezon City

B. Application forms must be submitted to the Office of Scholarships and Student Services together with all the supporting documents. Said office will conduct the preliminary screening.

C. Final selection will be done by the AIT Admissions and Scholarships Committee. The committee may use other criteria such as the interview or an essay examination.

SKAL Club of Manila Scholarship

Honorific Scholarship

Honorific scholarships are conferred by the university. A BS Tourism undergraduate who obtains, at the end of the semester, an absolute minimum weighted average of 1.45 or better is called a University Scholar. University scholars are listed in the UP President's List of Scholars.

On the other hand, an undergraduate who obtains, at the end of the semester, an absolute minimum weighted average of 1.75 or better is called a College Scholar. College scholars are listed in the Dean's List of Scholars.

In addition to the grades prescribed above, a student must also satisfy the following requirements:
  • Must have taken during the previous semester at least 15 units of academic load or normal load prescribed.
  • Must NOT have a grade below "3.0" in any academic or non-academic subject.
Grades of "inc" should also be completed by the end of the semester.

It should be noted that honorific scholarships do NOT entitle the holders any tuition fee waiver, either partial or full.
